今日は私達スクールで使っているJolly Phonicsというテキストをご紹介したいと思います。
日本では一般的ではありませんが、世界100カ国以上の英語圏で使われているテキストです。
突然ですが、日本人の皆さんは子供の頃から日本語を聞き分け、喋れましたよね？
その上で、あいうえおの五十音を習い、初めて見る言葉を読めたり、初めて聞く言葉も文字にして書くことができたはずです。
英語も日本語と同じ様に考えてください。
英語もまずは、正しく聞き分ける耳を持ち、正しい発音で喋ることができることが重要です。
このJolly Phonicsは英語を音から学ぶものになります。
Aは「アッアッ、エー」、Cは「カッカッ、シー」という具合に、アルファベットの正しい発音を絵やアクションを使って、リズミカルに教えていき、聞き分ける力、発音、アルファベットの正しい読み方などを身に着けていきます。
日本の学校では英語を文字から教える学習方法が一般的です。
極端な話ではありますが例えば【Apple】を初めて見たとして、日本の学校で教えている方法では「エーピーピーエルエー」としか読めません。
子供にとって、慣れ親しんでいる日本語ならまだしも、聞きなれない英語。
知らない単語については、正しく読めず、そして聞いても書けない。単語を覚えるにしても、ひたすら綴りを丸暗記…等、覚えることや分からない事が多すぎて英語を嫌いになってしまうのです。
ですが、Phonicsの音から学ぶ方法でしたら、初めて見た時でも【Apple】を「Apple」と、正しく読み、発音することが可能になり、それどころか初めて聞く言葉も、正しい綴りで書くことが出来る様になるのです。
僕が長年様々な方法で教えてきた中でJolly Phonicsは、日本の子供達にとっても一番成長が早く、楽しく英語を学べる学習方法です。
Today I would like to introduce you to the main Text we use at
Stellar. It's called Jolly Phonics. The Phonics teaching method isn't commonly
used in Japan. However, in English speaking Countries it is the
most common and natural way for kids to learn
English.
In Japan as child you
could understand and speak Japanese couldn't you? On top of that, you could read
Japanese - even words you had never seen before because you were taught
the letters by how they
sound.
It is the same with English. In English speaking Countries we learn the letters of the alphabet by their sounds. This allows us to be able to read new written words easily.
At Stellar, we use the Jolly Phonics teaching method in all of our classes.
It is a fun multi-sensory teaching method that uses a combination of actions, pictures, and rhythmic pronunciation to learn English
quickly and naturally.
I have been teaching for many years now and have found this to be the most
effective teaching method for children. It is fun, and the students' English levels improve very quickly which is motivating
for both them and the teachers.
